The Trip

The crew assembled

We left our house at 8am on Saturday July 31st. The cab was on time, we were ready to go and everyone was excited in the car. There was lots of clapping and happiness on the trip to the airport. There were no lines at the airport so we breezed through the baggage check and security and quickly found our gate. Jessi and Chantal went to find some food and to go to the bathroom. Austin and I stayed back and walked around the departure lounge. Austin was having a great time waving at people until he tripped and hit his head! He got a gash on his right eyebrow.

The Injury

He was bleeding a little so I got a bandaid and tried to cover it up but it wasn't sticky enough. I had the Air Canada worker call for a paramedic to come have a look and she called the airport fire squad. Moments later an airport courtesy worker came by to take some info from us and brought Austin a little toy. Shortly after the fire squad came and had a look. They weren't able to tell us definitely if he needed a stitch but they put a bandaid on it and gave him a stuffed bear. Austin was in a good mood so we decided to board the flight and assess his cut when we arrived in BC.

Yay for TV!

Getting on the flight was chaotic. Despite the claims of assistance boarding for people with small children, we received almost none. I had to make two trips to carry all of our gear to the seats and received only glares from the flight crew. Once everyone was settled thought, things were much better. The kids were great on the plane and we only had a few momentary problems which were remedied with in-flight TV or snacks!

Snack Time on the Plane

We arrived in BC at around 1pm local time. We had the same problem getting off the plane. When I joked to the flight attendant that it might take me a while to get everything out she said "I hope not, we don't get paid after the wheels stop." Not what I would call customer service. At least now I know so I can adjust my expectations. We headed towards the baggage claim.

Meeting Barry and Jennifer at the airport

As we stepped off the elevator we were greated by a cousin running towards us! Chantal recognized Jen right away and gave her a big squeeze. Austin and Mommy were greated by Great Granddad and Uncle Barry. After saying our hellos and claiming our bags we went to pick up our mini-van rental and drove to Barry's house to meet Vicki and have some snacks.

Great Granddad & Chantal

While the kids and Jessi hung out the Barry, Jen and Vicki, I went and checked in to our rental house which was about twenty minutes away. It's a really big house with lots of room for everyone. When I got back Lisa was there and we all hung out before returning to the house with everyone (Jen and Lisa came to stay with us) and settling in. Chantal fell off a bed in all the excitement and bumped her head adding her to the injured list.
